Every Sunday since before I was your pastor, Jackson has come home from youth energized and excited. He has quickly made new friends, found a welcoming atmosphere, and learned about his faith. As a parent, I am deeply grateful for this! And as pastor of this church, I am glad to know that our youth are learning about their faith and bonding together.
About a year ago, Tommy Martin asked Davis Perkins and Lillie King to serve as interim youth coordinators for the year. Their efforts have paid off with results that I can see in my own child’s life. Together, they have led our youth ably and I am grateful for their service. They take their leave of us at the end of this month and I wish them well in their future endeavors. If you would like to join me in wishing them well, cards and notes may be sent to the church office in their names.
Welcome to Elisa Reece, our new Family Minister!
Beginning this coming Monday, July 25, Elisa Reece joins our staff as our new Family Minister, with responsibility for our children and youth programs as well as programming and support for parents of children ages birth through eighteen. Those who attended the town hall meeting back in April will recall that the position seeks to engage and resource the whole family, as well as serve the traditional role of children and youth director. As such, she will focus on supporting and developing the spiritual lives of our existing families while also reaching out to new families. She plans to do this through new programming, support for existing programs like youth on Sundays, and through simple things like attending the games and extracurricular events of our children and youth. The SPRC and I were impressed with Elisa’s enthusiasm and ideas and look forward to her work with us!
A native of Warner Robins, Georgia, Elisa is a graduate of Valdosta State University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Public Administration & Personal Management. She continued her education at Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, NC, receiving a dual certification in Christian Education and Children’s Ministry through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of The United Methodist Church. At Jackson United Methodist Church, Elisa established The Mary Buttrill Day School for two and three year olds. She then served Christ United Methodist in Warner Robins, as Christian Programming & Student Ministry Director for eight years. God then called her to Greensboro First United Methodist Church as their Student Ministry & Faith Development Director. She comes to us with over twenty years of experience with spiritual formation, Christian education, and children and youth ministry. Elisa has two daughters: Bayleigh, who is married to Clint Wynn, who together have Elisa’s first grandchild Chesney Barrett Wynn; and Blayne, who attends Valdosta State University majoring in early childhood education.
I hope you will join me in welcoming Elisa to our church! Letters of welcome may be mailed to the church office in her name.
